- In short
This site sets no cookies, uses no tracking and embeds no external services. There is no contact form and no registration. That's pretty much it. I'm writing down the rest anyway, because the law asks for it and because you would have nothing else to read.
- What you won't find here
No newsletter pop-up. No "We use cookies to improve your experience". No chatbot that is on first-name terms with you without ever having met you. No like buttons. No map that shows where you are. No pixel that follows you around for a year with shoes you looked at once. I promise.
- Hosting and server logs
When you open the site, your browser tells the server what it needs to deliver the page: your IP address, date and time, the requested address, the status code, the amount of data sent, and browser and operating system. The host processes this because the site can't be delivered or kept secure without it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: legitimate interest in a working, secure site).
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., a company from the US. The host works for me under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). The server logs are kept only as long as needed for delivery, security and error analysis, usually a few days. Because the host is based in the US, data may end up there. The EU Commission's standard contractual clauses apply (Art. 46 GDPR). The connection is encrypted (HTTPS).
The domain alexfaust.de is registered with IONOS SE in Montabaur, Germany. IONOS says where the site lives; it doesn't serve it. The source code lives on GitHub. Your visit never reaches GitHub, only the code travels there from me. Three companies, one site: one knows the address, one delivers, one knows the code. Only I know all of it. And now you.
- Fonts, piano and game
Fonts are served by this site itself. They come from Google only once, when the site is built, and then sit on my server. Your browser never asks Google anything, so Google learns nothing about your visit.
The piano notes (Salamander Grand Piano, CC BY 3.0) and the game also live on this server. The notes only load when you press a key. Nothing here connects to a third party.
- Your name and colour choice
If you enter a name in the letter, it is stored in your browser (local storage, key "mn-name") so the text can address you by name. The same applies to a colour scheme you pick with the keys T and S (key "mn-theme"). Both stay on your device. They are not sent to the server, not passed on and not used for anything else. The legal basis is § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG, because you trigger the function yourself. You can delete both by clearing the field or the site data of your browser.
Your name ends up in the prepared email only if you click the link in the letter and send that email yourself.
Your browser also tells the page what time it is. This stays in the browser as well and is neither stored nor sent. Why? Come back at night and find out.
- Risks and side effects
Visiting this site may cause you to look for Easter eggs. There are 20. Common side effects: pressing keys, right-clicking, opening the console. If the searching persists, read the source or ask Alex.
- Contact by email or phone
If you write to me or call me, I process your details to answer your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). I delete them once they are no longer needed and no legal retention duty applies.
Technically, an email is a postcard. Please don't send passwords or anything you wouldn't write on a postcard.
- Links and automated decisions
There are no links to other sites. Where would I send you anyway? There is no profiling and no automated decision about you. The only thing that acts at random is the dot.
- Do you have to provide data?
No. You don't have to tell me anything. Technically, your browser only has to send what it needs to receive a page.
- Your rights
You may ask what I know about you (spoiler: not much), have it corrected, deleted or restricted, receive it in a common format, and object to processing that rests on legitimate interests (Art. 15 to 18, 20 and 21 GDPR). Write to the address above, and I answer like a human being.
- Complaints
You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority (Art. 77 GDPR). For me that is the Saxon Data Protection and Transparency Commissioner in Dresden (datenschutz.sachsen.de).
- Changes
If the site changes, this text changes. Not because you clicked "Accept all".
